Who we are
The Hispanic Connection of Southern Indiana, Inc. is a broad based group of people from the community that consists of individuals, families, businesses, educators, health care providers, churches, and service providers.
As a Latino outreach, the Hispanic Connection works in partnership with the English and Spanish speaking communities to promote change in attitudes and limit the common mis-understandings that often lead to discrimination.
As the Hispanic community grows in our area, we welcome the opportunity to celebrate this culture and its gift, which enrich and enhance our pluralistic society.
What we do
According to the 2000 Census, the Hispanic community is now 3.5% of the population in Indiana, with a growing presence in Clark, Floyd, and Harrison Counties.
The Hispanic people often face obstacles in adjusting to life in the United States. With this in mind, the Hispanic Connection was formed to promote greater communication between the English and Spanish speaking people in Southern Indiana, and to reach out to those who feel isolated and afraid.
Through action, advocacy, and involvement the Hispanic Connection addresses educational, legal, social, physical, and emotional needs and issues of human rights. This will provide the arena for an exchange of opinions and a better understanding between both groups.
Why network?
The Hispanic Connection provides the perfect opportunity to network among all of those who interact with the Hispanic community in Southern Indiana.
No matter what our backgrounds and our individual perceptions, we need to examine and understand both our differences and our common characteristics by widening and enriching our cultural diversity.
The Hispanic Connection links both worlds and provides an opportunity for service, education, and up-to-date news on relevant issues.
