Those in attendance: Mario Laso, Melissa, Dana Gerth, Beth, Lillian Rose, Father Tom Smith, Jessica Valois, Jackie Love
Meeting was opened by Father Tom Smith.
Father Tom commended Mario on what he has heard about Fifth Third Bank and the wonderful service , and hospitality the bank is giving to Latino customers.
The minutes from the previous meetings were accepted as read.
Hispanic Connection was represented at the Women’s Showcase held at Caesars, Inc. today
Status of Health fair to be held on Sunday, May 16th at 3:00p St. Mary’s Church
Suggestions were made for the fair:
Get list of names of organizations for booth space rental
Center for Women and Families and Clark Memorial Hospital have signed up for booth rental
A flyer will be sent out on e-mail requesting other organizations to participate in the booth space area
Solicit dentists to set up a booth at the fair
Providence High School will be contacted to donate bicycles, and Floyd Memorial will be contacted to donate bike helmets
Car show is being looked at for the outside of the fair to draw additional participants
The flyer for the fair has been passed out in Spanish, Krystal will also send out in English
Immunization shots may be given at the fair this year
There is a continued need for interpreters for the fair, and for the community as a whole
We need additional people to help with set-up and take-down
We need additional greeters
Suggested that Maria White, Spanish teacher at IUS should somehow be involved
It was suggested that Tumblebugs, and the Floyd Memorial Wellness bus be invited to participate this year in the fair
DNA test kits to keep children safe might be invited to participate
Need additional help with the food service part of the fair
Bringing hula hoops, jump ropes, etc.
Inviting a radio, and TV station to take pictures and do a story on the fair
IU Southeast Spanish majors and minors be invited to use as interpreters
Selling ad’s for the health fair
Pictures will be taken at the fair
There is work being done to get the Hispanic Directory rolling.
It was suggested that we invite Angie Desilva to be a guest speaker for the Life Skills Workshop in April
GCCS Office of Multicultural Affairs would like to co-sponsor
Ask Bridgepoint to use their facilities for the workshop - Possible date: April 20th from 3:00 – 5:00
Breakout sessions to be given on various topics
Flyers will be made for the event
Newsletter
First Draft – June 2008
Both in Spanish and in English
Selling of ad’s to support the newsletter and/or sponsorships
Template will be sent to Father Tom
Legal Clinic in Louisville
St. Rita’s Church
Great event! Would like to duplicate in Southern Indiana
