Hispanic Connection of Southern Indiana, Inc. Minutes for 12-3-2008
Those present: Lillian Rose, Sue Flynn, Jackie Love, Christal Gimmel, Michelle Turner, Mario Laso
Review of Minutes: Minutes from 11-5-2008 were approved
It was announced that the Duke Energy grant was submitted. Father Tom has been writing grants and so far has been awarded $1500.
Discussed possible dates for the Health Fair. April 19th is the only day the school is available. The date was approved by those in attendance. The time was set for 3:00 p.m. Volunteers will be needed to greet, serve food, and interpret.
The group discussed how to handle membership dues and how to communicate to members when membership dues need to be paid. It was suggested that members receive an e-mail reminder to pay dues. It was requested that a list of current members (individual and organization) be compiled to help with communication. Mario made the suggestion that the group consider developing small committees to work on certain issues and Mario offered to be on the Membership Committee.
Lillian announced the upcoming meeting with Juana Watson, the outreach coordinator for the Governor. The meeting date was set for Dec. 15th. An email will be sent out once the date is confirmed with Juana.

Discussed having the next Legal Clinic. The group recommended that a Legal Clinic be held in the Spring. The group discussed how the Hispanic Connection can give back. A suggestion was made that the group raise funds to prepare Christmas (2009) and Easter baskets for kids. Other suggestions were to create a team to volunteer for Repair Affair and to hold a forum on education for Hispanic families. Jackie Love volunteered to look into having an educational forum in August. The forum would acquaint families with school personnel and be an opportunity to highlight the value of education.
