Minutes to the Meeting
March 1, 2006 12:00 p.m.
Location: Indiana University Southeast, Scribner Clark Room
Attendance: Krystal Angevine, Jose Becerra, Maria Donoso, Donna Jenkins, Mary Lagunez, Mario Lagunez, Jackie Love, Lillian Rose, Father Tom Smith, Nancy Totten, Angel Wolfe
1. Minutes for the February 1, 2006 meeting – Angel Wolfe made motion to approve which was seconded by Jackie Love; the minutes were approved.
2. Angel Wolfe stated that membership renewal notices/invoices were mailed and asked those in attendance to pay those invoices. She is collecting items for the membership promotion and asked for those items to be given to her at the next meeting.
3. Angel also reported that the Website is now available: www.hispanicconnectionsi.org The “Contribute III” software is installed to allow modifications to the website. Training on how to use Contribute is included with the purchase of the software. Translations for the English/Spanish home pages are being finalized and will be ready within the next couple of weeks. Videos can be placed on the website, as well as a membership list.
4. The Southern Indiana Chamber of Commerce’s Women and Minority Business Owners’ Conference will be held March 7, 2006 from 7:00 am – 4:30 pm at Caesar’s. The Hispanic Connection has use of a free tabletop display that was donated by a vendor who was unable to use their spot. Angel is doing the table set-up, and Lillian Rose and Mario Lagunez will also help “man” the booth during the event.
5 . Sunday March 19th, Feria de Salud/Health Fair, 3:00-5:00 pm in St. Mary’s Gymnasium. Krystal A. passed out flyers for attendees to take and post/distribute around the community.
* Can begin set up around 1:00 pm, and Jose Becerra will be there from set-up until close. Krystal passed around a list of participants who have committed to having tables, and of 30 tables, 27 were already filled.
* Lillian R. is obtaining door prizes, and there is sufficient money in the budget to purchase food from Puerto Vallarta restaurant, which Lillian will obtain.
* Bicycle donations are being sought by Krystal and St. Mary’s. Krystal will obtain helmets for any donated bikes. Any bikes can be given to Krystal or brought to the Fair.
* Greeters: Mary L., Maria D. and Donna J.
* Signs thanking Caesar’s and the Community Foundation are being prepared by Lillian and Fr. Tom.
* Jackie L. prepared an evaluation form for booth participants, and the group discussed this form.
* Interpreters would be welcomed to assist at the booths.
6. Fall Forum on Immigration issues is being planned for early October. Angel will check with Bass Pro Shop concerning the availability of a room. A panel discussion was recommended, with local attorneys to be contacted.
7. Financial Report and Election of Officers – passed until April meeting.
8. Fr. Tom reported that the office is being moved upstairs in the building.
9. Maria Donoso from Premier Mortgage Funding was introduced. She recently joined that company and is available to assist those desiring to purchase a home.
Next month’s meeting is Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at 12:00 noon, Indiana University Southeast, University Center, in the Scribner-Clark Room in the lower level.
